Brake pads typically last 30,000 to 70,000 miles. Your actual mileage depends on driving style, terrain, and vehicle weight, trucks that tow or drive steep grades wear pads faster. What affects how long brake pads last
Stop-and-go driving, towing, heavy vehicles, and long mountain descents all wear pads faster. Highway miles are gentlest. In the Yampa Valley, grades and towing mean many trucks land at the shorter end of the range.
Warning signs it's time
Squealing or grinding noise, a soft or vibrating pedal, longer stopping distance, or the dashboard brake light. Grinding means metal-on-metal, at that point you're risking the rotors, which makes the job much more expensive.
